Excerpt Silence followed as their eyes met in a knowing glance. There was no sound except the soft hum of the air circulating through the vents around the apartment. Darci had left it up to her as to whether or not they would sleep together, laying out her attraction and need in simple heartfelt words. Though she'd been unsure about being with another woman, Darci was patient and gentle, leading her into lovemaking with an experienced hand. She'd been with a man before. Their affair had ended unpleasantly, and she'd sworn never to have sex with a man again unless forced. Darci sent out a clear, loud vibe that she didn't like men and didn't care if another contracted her as a mistress or not. It certainly seemed to work. The men stayed away. Trina shook her head. "No," she admitted honestly. "You're a part of my life. I'd never want it to be any other way." That wasn't entirely a lie, but it was not exactly the truth, either. She wanted to experience sex with a man--but only in a clinical, detached way, not an emotional one. Take her pleasure, walk away. Most of all, she didn't want to hurt Darci. Darci rose and came around to Trina's side of the table. Sitting down beside her, she stroked a hand down Trina's cheek. The caress gave new life to the swirling vortex of heat in her belly. "I don't want to lose you," she said, placing Trina's hand over her heart. "Today--that was too close." "I agree," Trina gulped. "I think we should stop for a while, play things safe." Darci nodded, absently tracing Trina's fingers with her own. "We'll sell off this last bit we've gathered, then no more. We're getting out of the smuggling business for a while." Trina exhaled the breath she hadn't been aware she was holding. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest. Their eyes locked in a knowing gaze. "Let's skip dinner," Darci murmured. "We can eat later." Her hand lifted, grazing Trina's nipple through the thin material of her robe. The little bead hardened, coming to instant attention and igniting a whirlwind of sensations. Both her breasts were straining with need. Breaking Bonds was previously released as Illuminati.

Breaking Bonds
is a fascinating futuristic look into a society that is not at all improbable given civilization’s history over the past millennia, and present circumstances.
Devyn Quinn
has a remarkable talent for world-building, and excellent skills with plotting, character, and dialogue as well. Trina, Darci, and Wade are rendered in depth, as are other more secondary characters. Breaking Bonds is a novel that deserves reading and re-reading from a fine author.
